How Do You Fix a Dripping Faucet at Home?

Most dripping faucets are fixed by replacing a worn washer, O-ring, or cartridge. Shut off the water, take the handle apart, swap the failed part, and reassemble.

Steps to stop the drip

  1. Turn off the supply valves under the sink.
  2. Remove the handle and unscrew the cartridge or stem.
  3. Inspect the washer, O-ring, and cartridge for wear.
  4. Replace the damaged part with an exact match.
  5. Reassemble and turn the water back on slowly.
